Tri-Star Eventing Final League Results Round Up

With the Tri-Star Eventing Leagues wrapped up, Osberton Horse Trials set the stage for the presentation of prizes and rosettes to the deserving winners.

The Grassroots and Intermediate leagues were very kindly sponsored by Saracen Horse Feeds and the lucky winners of these received an abundance of goodies.

The Grassroots League is open to any Musketeer and BEDE Events competitor riding at BE80, BE90 or BE100 who has not competed at Intermediate level. This was dominated by Sophia Icke and her 17-year-old gelding Think Tank Think, whom she has campaigned for 11 years.

Finishing with 48 points, Sophia was a staggering 28 points ahead of Isabella Stagg and Quite a Compliment who finished runners up with 20. To make the feat even more impressive, 2018 is the second consecutive year Sophia and ‘Tank’ have claimed the Grassroots League. Not only will Sophia be the recipient of a tonne of Saracen Horse Feed feed, she has also been granted a bursary which includes three days training at dressage, showjumping and cross country. The Grassroots League is a fantastic opportunity for true grassroots competitors to show the eventing community what they are made of.

The Novice League is kindly sponsored by Fairfax Saddles and is open to all competitors at Novice or one-star level competing at Musketeer and BEDE events, with the proviso that they haven’t competed at four-star level in the past ten years.

This league was more tightly fought, with the leader board changing drastically from event to event. It was Elicia Miller and her own 12-year-old gelding A Sunny Bay who took the title, finishing on 29 points. Elicia and A Sunny Bay have had a hugely successful season, not only taking the Fairfax Saddles Novice League but also winning Junior European Eventing Team Gold in Fontainebleau.

Elicia receives from Fairfax Saddles a Fairfax Performance Snaffle Bridle, Fairfax Performance Event Girth and Fairfax Performance Breastplate. With a Junior Team Gold Medallist leading the pack, it illustrates how competitive and consistent you must be to top these leader boards.

Finally the Intermediate League, open to all riders competing at Musketeer and BEDE Events two-star or Intermediate classes. Again kindly sponsored by Saracen Horse Feeds, and with nearly two tonnes of horse feed, clothing and horse rugs on offer, competition was fierce. The league was claimed by World Equestrian Games Eventing 2018 Team Gold Medallist Piggy French aboard Mr. Trevor Dickens 8-year-old mare Graf Cavalier.

With an early win at BEDE’s Oasby and a second place in the CCI** at Musketeer’s Houghton, Graf Cavalier has had a very successful season, accumulating 42 points in the League. Piggy receives three days training with a Saracen Horse Feeds brand ambassador alongside a tonne of horse feed and clothing for herself and her horses.

Head of the chasing pack was Ella Woodhead and Fernhill Playboy on 38 points.
