FEI Houghton International Day One

The first full day of competition is drawing to a close. The Dubarry Burghley Young Event Horse classes have been won; Jane Heerbeck’s Horatio, ridden by JP Sheffield, made it two wins on the trot having taken the Four Year Old class at Rockingham last weekend, and today finishing two points ahead of Ros Canter on Lordship Graffalo. Virginia Turnbull rode Demi Minutus into third place.
In the Five Year Old section Sarah Bullimore took the honours on her husband’s Corouet, this horse also winning his class at Rockingham. She finished on an identical score to Judy Bradwall’s Grappa Nera ridden by Alex Postolowsky, but it was Corouet who posted the better ‘wow’ factor final mark, gaining the maximum 10 points. JP Sheffield was back in the prizes, third on Celine.
Also in action today were the Sema Lease Arena Eventing 100cm competitors, and Rosie Chinery was the comfortable winner aboard Stan. Almost six points off the pace were Rosie Ringer on Tiny Tom, who had five jumping penalties to add to their time, with Harriett Beaumont on Confetti completing the top three.
Gemma Tattersall leads the CICO3* at the end of the first day, although there are still plenty of good combinations to follow over the next two days. Chico Bella P posted a score of 32.7, with second placed Sam Griffiths and Beaurepaire Nemo on 41.0.
The CCI2* is currently led by Tim Price riding Danturano K (38.7), with Harry Meade best of the rest with Vrolijk (42.0). Meanwhile last year’s National U21 Champion Will Furlong leads the CCI1*, this time riding Collien P2. Their score of 37.2 is 1.6 penalties better than that of Daisy Dick and Ballinteskin Cooper S. However there is still all to play for tomorrow…
