Shearwater Insurance Tri-Star Grand Slam returns
After the success of last year’s competition Shearwater Insurance and Tri-Star Eventing announce the return of The Shearwater Insurance Tri-Star Grand Slam.
The unique series offers a ‘winner-takes-all’ prize fund of £50,000 for any rider who can win three of the five CIC3* events included in the competition: this year the qualifying classes will run at Belton International, Burnham Market International, Houghton International, Burgham International as well as, new for 2017, NAF Five Star Hartpury International.
Shearwater Insurance has a long history of supporting the British Eventing scene and in devising last year’s £50,000 prize fund, it was hoped it would support the dedicated owners and riders, as well as raising the profile of the sport.
Jeremy Lawton, Managing Director of Shearwater Insurance said, “We are thrilled that the Shearwater Insurance Tri-Star Grand Slam is returning for another year. We have long recognised the importance of supporting the owners, riders, venues and the spectators who make up the British Eventing scene, and we hope that this competition will continue to offer them something new and challenging to aim for.”
Stuart Buntine from BEDE Events commented, “It is exciting to have Shearwater Insurance back supporting the Tri-Star Grand Slam. The continued support from Jeremy and his team is much appreciated by all in the sport.”
Joining this exciting competition for the first time is NAF Five Star Hartpury International. Event Director Philip Cheetham said, “We are delighted to have come on board this year to be part of the Shearwater Tri-Star Grand Slam. It is a unique and challenging competition offering up a really fantastic prize pot for the rider who can prove their consistency throughout the season. As the last venue in the series we imagine it could make our event an even more nail biting moment in the calendar.”
British number 1 event rider Oliver Townend, who won two legs of the series last year, commented: “It is great to have another big money competition available for us event riders to compete in. Eventing is a challenging sport and I am grateful to Shearwater Insurance for supporting this series and recognising the dedication and work that goes into performing at these competitions. It will certainly be a strong motivator for the upcoming season.”
