FEI Burnham Market International Horse Trials set to deliver a superb weekend of sport
A star-studded line up is heading to North West Norfolk for the 2023 FEI Barefoot Retreats Burnham Market International Horse Trials this weekend (14-16 April).
After a challenging spell of extremely wet weather, many of the sport’s top combinations will be seeking to get a valuable run under their belt at Burnham Market, before heading on to the big spring targets such as the 5* competitions at Kentucky in the USA and Badminton here in Britain.
For those who love eventing the start list promises a real treat, with Olympic Gold medallists, European medallists and the reigning Burghley and Badminton Champions amongst those ready to compete. Last year’s Burghley winner, Piggy March and the hugely popular mare Vanir Kamira have been placed numerous times in the 4* class at Burnham Market, including second in 2021. Can they go one better this year?
Anyone looking to take the CCI4*-S honours will need to get the better of world number four, Oliver Townend. Oliver further sealed his position as the undisputed King of Burnham Market last year by adding two more CCI4*-S wins to his tally, making it a remarkable 15 wins in the headline 4* classes at this event. He returns to defend his crown with a trio of top talent – last year’s CCI4*-S Section C winner, Swallow Springs; Section B runner up, Tregilder; and Tokyo team gold medallist, Ballaghmor Class.
“It looks set to be a very busy three days,” said Event Organiser for Musketeer Event Management, Jenny Meiklejohn. “We have got some great entries, the ground looks fantastic, and we can’t wait to welcome everyone to Norfolk for some superb sport.”
