Come eventing at Barbury!
The grounds of Barbury Castle is set for another action-packed weekend of eventing next month (11-14 July), as riders compete to win two of the sport’s most sought after qualification tickets – the opportunity to compete in the Championships of the Cotswold Cup, and the chance to reach the Burghley Young Event Horse Championships at the Defender Burghley CCI5*.
Over the last couple of years Barbury has proved itself to be a hugely popular venue for those hoping to qualify for the Cotswolds Cup, the must win eventing series for unaffiliated riders. With a £17,500 prize pot on offer at the Championships hosted at Cirencester Park in September, each of the qualifying classes is a valuable opportunity to accrue the valuable points required to make the finals.
In addition to the unaffiliated classes, the venue will also be hosting qualifiers for the prestigious Burghley Young Event Horse Championships. Open to four and five-year-olds, these classes are widely acknowledged as ‘the shop window to view potential ‘five star’ horses at an early age’ and means that, once again, some of the world’s most promising young horses will be heading to Barbury. For many years the estate has been a popular destination for educating the equine stars of tomorrow, with the likes of Oliver Townend’s Tokyo Olympic team gold medal winning partner, Ballaghmor Class and Kitty King’s European team gold medallist, Vendredi Biats both having won British Eventing classes on the site earlier in their careers.
