Barefoot Retreats Burnham Market Day 2 roundup
Kitty King riding the Badminton-bound Vendredi Biats won the main advanced class today, narrowly pipping Burnham Market maestro and current world number one Oliver Townend to the top spot, Oliver’s ride Ulises also entered for most famous event in the sport next month.
“It was a fantastic prep-run. Vendredi Biats had his breakfast at 3.15am this morning, in order to get to Norfolk in time for an 11am dressage test – but it was worth the early start,” said Kitty, who is based in Wiltshire. She led the class through all three phases, and said of Alec Lochore’s cross country course: “There were enough questions out there, but it was also confidence building. I was able to let the hand brake off a bit and check where we are fitness-wise – and I was happy with how he kept his concentration.”
The two straight intermediate classes saw wins for Piggy French riding Sportsfield Top Notch and Oliver Townend on Arklow Puissance. Piggy also claimed the runner up spot in one of the open intermediates, this time partnering Carnival March who was beaten by Jesse Campbell and Cleveland. Nicola Wilson added to her novice win yesterday by topping the leaderboard in the remaining open intermediate class.
Two novice classes completed the day’s sport. These were won by Emily Philp on Unchained Melody and Georgie Strang riding Monbeg Odyssey.
Tomorrow’s action starts with Three Star showjumping at 8.30am – their cross country starts at 9.30am. The Four Star jumping starts at 12.20pm.
